What is a compound?
A compound is a substance that results from the combination of two or more different chemical elements. The elements in a compound are bonded together by the sharing or exchange of electrons in a chemical bond.

Compounds
A chemical compound is a chemical substance composed of many identical molecules containing atoms from more than one chemical element held together by chemical bonds.
History of Chemical Compounds
All the matter in the universe is composed of atoms of more than 100 different chemical elements, which are found both in pure form and combined in chemical compounds. A sample of any given pure element is composed only of the atoms characteristic of that element, and the atoms of each element are unique.
Chemists continued to discover new compounds in the 1800s. Science also began to develop a more theoretical foundation.
